This year we served over 400 students from 30 different parishes for our 2025-2026 Confirmation retreats. Inspired by Acts 4:31, the retreat focused on the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. The scripture reads “When they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.”
Just as fire illuminates, refines, and transforms, this retreat invited students to kindle the fire of the Holy Spirit within. Through prayer, teaching, and encounter, they learned about how to build a relationship with the Holy Spirit, receive a deeper outpouring of grace, and be filled with a desire to go out into the world, ready to share all that they've learned and experienced. Specifically, they heard about 3 titles of the Holy Spirit: the animator, the refiner, and the sanctifier, and how the Holy Spirit is actually one of the greatest gifts we could ever receive!
Thank you to Holy Apostles, St. Lucy, St. Philip, St. Francis de Sales, Holy Trinity, St. Augustine, & St. Teresa of the Child Jesus, for hosting us as we traveled around the diocese!
We had more than 300 catechumens and candidates come to the Cathedral for this liturgical rite as those people journeying in the OCIA move closer to receiving the Sacraments of Initiation.
It was a midweek date night at our diocesan cathedral on Tuesday, February 10th! Couples in their first three years of marriage received guidance and sage advice from Grace and Kevin Peloquin who have been married for 10 years and have two daughters, and Fr. Nicholas Fleming, Pastor of SS. John & James parish in West Warwick.
On Saturday, December 6th, the annual Women’s Conference was held at the Cathedral of Ss. Peter & Paul. 225 women representing 54 different parishes across three states, enjoyed presentations from Heather Khym (Life Restoration Ministries and the Abiding Together podcast), Kristen Fisher (Enkindle Catholic), and music ministry led by Melissa Roberts. The day began with Mass celebrated by Bishop Bruce Lewandowski and included the Sacrament of Reconciliation. At least 120 women went to confession! Thanks to Fr. Henry Bodah, Fr. Robert Lacombe, Fr. Patrick O’Connor, Fr. Patrick Ryan, Fr. Eric Silva, and Fr. Thomas Woodhouse who made that possible. The women were also able to do some holiday shopping while supporting Catholic vendors from around New England.
Young adults from Ocean State Underground gathered at St. Mary's Mission for an evening of prayer, confession, and fellowship followed by dinner and drinks at Smokey Bones.
Over 80 students from local parishes came together for a Holy Spirit centered Confirmation retreat inspired by Acts 4:31. Participants learned how to strengthen their relationship with the Holy Spirit and recognize the gifts that will guide them in living the Gospel with courage.
The Chancery Day of Renewal and Diocesan Night of Renewal brought participants together to pray, reflect, and encounter Christ anew. Bishop Bruce A. Lewandowski, Father John Riccardo, and the ACTS XXIX team guided the gathering, insiring renewed faith and missin across the diocese.
Frassati Night, inspired by the Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, brought together around 40 young adults for a joyful evening at Roger Williams Zoo Jack-o'-Lantern Spectacular and ending at The Brass Monkey.
Our Diocesan team traveled to Our Lady of Mercy Parish in East Greenwich where we were joined by 50 teens for their Confirmation retreat. The theme for this year, inspired by Acts 4:31, centers on the transformative power of the Holy Spirit: “When they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.”
Just as fire illuminates, refines, and transforms, this retreat invites candidates to kindle the fire of the Holy Spirit within. Through prayer, teaching, and encounter, they will learn how to build a relationship with the Holy Spirit, receive a deeper outpouring of grace, and discover how to recognize and use their spiritual gifts and charisms to boldly live and proclaim the Gospel.
Keep these teens in your prayers, as they will be confirmed within this month of October. Come Holy Spirit!
