First Holy Communion is a Sacrament of Initiation, through which a person receives the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ, truly and substantially present, in the consecrated Bread and Wine. The recipient must: be a baptized Catholic, attain the age of reason (usually seven years old), have received the Sacrament of Penance, fast from food and drink one hour before reception, and be in a state of grace.
